The Khatu fair

The Falgun fair at Khatu, about 45 km from Sikar, runs for ten to twelve days in February or March and draws fifteen to twenty lakh devotees. Many walk the last stretch from Reengus, and the highway towards Jaipur carries far more traffic than usual. A truck leaving Sikar for Jaipur or Delhi in those days should start very early, or the move should be planned for the week before or after.

Summer

This is one of the hottest districts in the country. The record stands close to 50 degrees. In May and June, loading starts at first light and stops well before noon. Pickles, ghee and anything in the kitchen that can spoil or leak should be packed last and travel with the family where possible.

Winter nights and fog

The same district has recorded temperatures well below freezing. On the coldest mornings, fog and frost delay the start, and trucks on the highway slow down. Keep a day in hand for long routes in December and January.

End of the coaching session

RJ-23 vehicles going out of Rajasthan

For a permanent move, get the No Objection Certificate from the district transport office before the car or bike is sent, as the new state will ask for it at re-registration. BH-series vehicles are exempt. The current procedure is on the Parivahan portal, and it is for the owner to complete.
