A good move is mostly a well-planned one. After years of shifting homes and offices across Gujarat and the rest of India, we've seen exactly where relocations go smoothly and where they go sideways - and it almost always comes down to preparation. Here are the tips we actually give our own customers, whether they're moving one room across Gandhidham or a full household across the country.
Start with a written inventory: List everything you're moving, room by room. It keeps you organised, tells your movers exactly what to quote for, and becomes your checklist when you're confirming that every box arrived.
Declutter before you pack, not after: The cheapest thing to move is something you don't move at all. Sort items into keep, donate, sell, and discard. You'll pay to transport less, and you'll unpack into a cleaner home.
Pack room by room and label clearly: Don't mix the kitchen with the bedroom. Pack one room at a time, seal each box, and label it with the room it belongs to. Mark fragile boxes on more than one side.
Use the right materials: Sturdy double-wall cartons, good packing tape, bubble wrap for glass and electronics, and stuffing to fill gaps so nothing rattles. Weak boxes are the most common reason things break in transit.
Pack an essentials box: Keep one clearly-marked box with what you'll need the moment you arrive: a change of clothes, toiletries, chargers, basic kitchen items, medicines, and important documents.
Carry valuables and documents yourself: Cash, jewellery, passports, property papers, and other critical documents should travel with you, not in the truck. Any reputable mover will tell you the same.
Tell the right people you're moving: Update your address with your bank, employer, and utility providers, and arrange disconnection and reconnection of electricity, gas, internet, and water at both ends around your moving date.
Hire professionals for the heavy part: For anything beyond a few items, trained packers and movers save you time, injury, and breakage. Get a proper survey and a written quote, check reviews, and confirm insurance before you book.
